To look into a polar bear’s eyes is to look into the very soul of our Earth, and to see ourselves reflected in all our faults and weaknesses. Behind the seemingly impassive gaze lies a knowledge of all that came before as he is witness to our blunders and suffers the destruction we leave in our wake. We treasure the polar bear’s beauty and fear his power, yet he remains vulnerable to our whims. Just as the fur of the bear absorbs and reflects the light and colour around it, so does the animal observe and reflect the changes in our world, and bears silent witness to our, and his, destruction.
